MLX Head Gasket

The Cometic MLX Head Gasket is engineered for B58 turbocharged inline-six engines in BMW chassis and the Toyota GR Supra A90/A91. It replaces Toyota part # 11115WAA04.

C14144-036, C14144-040, C14144-042, C14144-04052

Built with multiple layers of coated and uncoated stainless steel, MLX gaskets conform to the cylinder head and block during the first heat cycle, forming a chemical bond for superior sealing. The layered design acts as a spring, preventing blowouts and compensating for head lift.

Note: MLX gaskets are not compatible with engines using O-rings or receiver grooves, as they require smooth surfaces for proper sealing.

Cut-Ring Head Gasket

The Athena Cut-Ring Head Gasket for B58 Gen 2 replaces part # 11115WAA04. Made from M0115 asbestos-free material, it features AISI 304 stainless steel Cooper Rings that bite into the aluminum head for maximum sealing, ideal for high-boost (2+ bar) applications with turbo or nitrous.

Sizing: Gasket should be 0.5mm to 1mm larger than the piston. (e.g., 84mm piston → use 84.5mm or 85mm gasket).

Head Gasket Installation instructions:

  1. Ensure the engine block and cylinder head surfaces are clean, flat, and free from any debris, oil, or coolant.

  2. Install head gasket on the engine block and ensure that it is properly aligned. Avoid twisting or bending the gasket during installation.

  3. Place cylinder head on top of gasket and install the head studs in their correct positions.

  4. Follow the ARP's recommended torque specifications and tighten the bolts or studs in the proper sequence to ensure even clamping force across the gasket.

  5. After initial tightening, re-torque the head studs after the engine has been started and then allowed to cool to room temperature. This will ensure that the gasket is properly seated and compressed.

  6. It is recommended to not use any additional sealant on head gasket. Using additional sealant can hinder the performance of the gasket.

Head Stud Kit:

The ARP2000 Head Stud Kit, 203-4705, is designed for the turbocharged inline 6-cylinder B58 engines found in various BMW chassis and the Toyota GR Supra A90/A91.  As you increase the power output of your engine beyond its factory specifications, the head and block may start to separate, causing factory bolts to stretch and fail. ARP Head Studs are stronger than factory bolts, ensuring your race engine stays together even under extreme conditions.

The Custom Age 625+ option, 203-4706, is made from a material that has a tensile strength of 260 ksi, which is substantially higher than the 190 ksi of the ARP 2000 head stud. It's an ideal choice for individuals who want to push the limits of their B58 builds and require a stronger head stud.

Head Stud Kit Installation Instructions:

1. To ensure proper thread engagement and accurate torque readings, clean ALL threads in the block. Chase if necessary with ARP Thread Chaser.
2. Clean and inspect all hardware prior to installation. Look for obvious defects or shipping damages, plus proper fit, length and dimension.
3. If the cylinder head studs protrude into a water jacket, lubricate the block threads of the studs with ARP THREAD SEALER.
4. Screw studs into the block “HAND TIGHT ONLY”.
5. Install the cylinder head(s) and check for binding or misalignment.
6. Lubricate the stud threads, nuts and washers with ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT.
Then install the washers and the nuts onto the studs and tighten them hand tight.
ARP recommends using the ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT that is provided with each kit as opposed to motor oil. This is due to higher friction on the studs as well as inconsistencies in the clamping force of the fasteners when motor oil or other low quality lubricants are used.

PRELOAD (TORQUE) RECOMMENDATIONS
