The 5150 AutoSport BMW S54 VANOS Delete Kit is a set of components designed to remove the OEM VANOS system from the S54 engine, which is found in the E46 M3, Z3 M, and Z4 M. 

Our kit includes the components necessary to lock the camshafts in a fixed position, bypass the VANOS control system, and ensure that the engine can operate without the variable camshaft timing feature, making camshaft timing completely customizable.

Why Eliminate VANOS?

Performance Tuning for Track-Prepared Vehicles

High RPM Optimization: Track-prepared cars can benefit from high RPM optimization and fixed cam timing, which is more predictable and easier to tune for specific power bands.

Custom Camshaft Profiles: Some performance tuners may opt for custom camshaft profiles that do not require variable timing, aiming for maximum power in a specific RPM range rather than a broad power curve.

Important Notes on Eliminating VANOS:

It is important to note that the BMW S54 VANOS Delete Kit is a modification that is mainly beneficial to cars that are only used for on-track, race applications. Eliminating VANOS results in the following effects, which may not be the best fit for your build. If you have any further questions, consult with your engine builder or work with one of our engine build advisors.

Loss of Low-End Torque: The VANOS system improves low-end torque by optimizing camshaft timing for different engine speeds. Without VANOS, the engine may lose some low-end responsiveness and torque.

Reduced Fuel Efficiency: Variable camshaft timing helps optimize fuel efficiency across different driving conditions. Removing it can lead to increased fuel consumption, especially in daily driving or part-throttle conditions.

Emissions: The VANOS system helps in reducing emissions by ensuring optimal combustion efficiency. Eliminating it may lead to higher emissions, possibly making the car non-compliant with emissions regulations.**

Less Versatile Power Delivery: With fixed cam timing, the engine's power delivery becomes less versatile, potentially sacrificing performance outside the targeted RPM range for optimization.

BMW S54 VANOS Delete Kit Includes:

• (1) Billet VANOS Elimination Plate 
• (2) Adjustable Camshaft Hubs
• (1) Block OFF Plug
• Uses OE O-Rings and replaces OE Oil Supply Valve
• Installation Hardware  

BMW S54 VANOS Delete Kit Installation Instructions:

1. Remove the factory VANOS assembly following the official BMW procedure.
2. Install the sprocket hubs using the supplied M6 x 16 mm screws with Loctite. Torque to the factory specification.
3. Install the cam sprockets and set cam timing according to the cam manufacturer’s specifications.
4. Attach the cam sprockets to the sprocket hubs using the supplied M6 x 14 mm screws, Loctite, and washers.
5. Install the supplied block-off plate to prevent oil flow into the original VANOS tube. We recommend replacing the O-rings with new ones during this step.
