PVD Coated Piston Rings: What are they?

Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) is a specialty coating used by CP-Carrillo on specialized ring sets, favored for its finish, which is harder and notably smoother than traditional gas nitride alone, providing the ring with much greater endurance and reducing friction against the cylinder wall.

These ring sets feature a thicker, 1.2mm steel top ring for increased durability and resistance to flutter. A light, 2.0mm oil ring supplies the tension required for oil control while allowing for more material to be used on the piston ring lands for increased piston strength in turbo engines or reduced total piston height for weight savings in NA applications.
