This kit is designed for BMW S14B20, S14B23, S14B25, and S14B27 engines found in the E30 M3. It includes a high-performance head gasket and an ARP head stud kit to ensure superior sealing and reliability under extreme conditions.

MLS Head Gasket

A direct replacement for BMW part #11121316714, this Cometic MLS (Multi-Layer Steel) head gasket is ideal for both OEM rebuilds and performance applications, including turbocharged engines.

Note: MLS gaskets require smooth, flat surfaces and are not compatible with O-ringed blocks.

Athena Cut-Ring Head Gasket

Recommended for engines exceeding 16+ psi of boost, this gasket features AISI 304 stainless steel rings that bite into the aluminum head for unmatched sealing, even in nitrous or high-boost applications above 2 bar. Constructed from premium asbestos-free M0115 material, it ensures:

  • Maximum sealing for high-compression and forced induction setups

Installation Note: Ensure all mating surfaces are clean and resurfaced before installation.

ARP Head Stud Kit

The ARP #201-4605 head stud kit enhances engine durability and head gasket reliability by providing superior clamping force. Ideal for high-performance and racing builds, this kit helps prevent head lift under extreme conditions.

Installation Tips:

  • Clean and prepare all threads before installation
  • Hand-tighten studs into the block
  • Use ARP Ultra-Torque Lubricant for consistent clamping force
  • Follow proper torque sequence and re-torque after initial engine heat cycle
Installation Instructions: 

1. To ensure proper thread engagement and accurate torque readings, clean ALL threads in the block. Chase if necessary with ARP Thread Chaser.
2. Clean and inspect all hardware prior to installation. Look for obvious defects or shipping damages, plus proper fit, length and dimension.
3. If the cylinder head studs protrude into a water jacket, lubricate the block threads of the studs with ARP THREAD SEALER.
4. Screw studs into the block “HAND TIGHT ONLY”.
5. Install the cylinder head(s) and check for binding or misalignment.
6. Lubricate the stud threads, nuts and washers with ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT.
Then install the washers and the nuts onto the studs and tighten them hand tight.
ARP recommends using the ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT that is provided with each kit as opposed to motor oil. This is due to higher friction on the studs as well as inconsistencies in the clamping force of the fasteners when motor oil or other low quality lubricants are used.

PRELOAD (TORQUE) RECOMMENDATIONS

7. Following the manufacturers recommended torque sequence tighten the nuts steps 1-3


Step 1: Tighten to 30 ft-lbs.
Step 2: Tighten to 60 ft-lbs.
Step 3: Tighten to 95 ft-lbs.
