5150 Autosport S54 VANOS Elimination Kit

The 5150 Autosport VANOS Elimination Kit removes the factory dual VANOS system from the BMW S54, converting it to a fixed cam timing setup for maximum simplicity, consistency, and mechanical reliability.

This kit is designed for heavily modified engines, including supercharged and turbocharged builds, as well as hill climb, drifting, rally, and drag racing applications. It is particularly beneficial in combinations using ECUs that do not support dual VANOS control. In race environments where engines are consistently operated above 3000 RPM, the VANOS system provides limited benefit, making a fixed cam timing setup more stable and predictable.

The factory S54 VANOS system is known for a range of common issues, including:

• Rattling noise from the VANOS unit 
• Loss of low-end torque and overall power
• Inconsistent or sluggish throttle response
• Rough or unstable idle
• VANOS-related fault codes and check engine lights
• Hesitation during throttle transitions
• Delayed or incorrect cam timing response
• Reduced high-RPM performance
• Limp mode activation in some cases
  
• Metallic noise indicating potential internal wear or damage
• Exhaust hub tab failure and solenoid-related issues

By locking the cam timing in place, this kit eliminates these VANOS-related failure points, including exhaust hub failure, solenoid malfunctions, and system noise. It also provides a stable foundation for more aggressive engine configurations, such as higher duration and lift camshafts, as well as oversized valve upgrades.

Important Notes on Eliminating VANOS

This modification is intended for track-only and race applications. Removing VANOS significantly changes engine behavior and may not suit all builds.

• Reduced Low-End Torque: VANOS optimizes cam timing across the RPM range. Eliminating it reduces low-end responsiveness.
• Best suited for engines operating primarily at higher RPM
• Not recommended for street-driven vehicles

• Uses OE O-rings and replaces OE oil supply valve

BMW S54 VANOS Delete Kit Installation Instructions:

1. Remove the factory VANOS assembly following the official BMW procedure.
2. Install the sprocket hubs using the supplied M6 x 16 mm screws with Loctite. Torque to the factory specification.
3. Install the cam sprockets and set cam timing according to the cam manufacturer’s specifications.
4. Attach the cam sprockets to the sprocket hubs using the supplied M6 x 14 mm screws, Loctite, and washers.
5. Install the supplied block-off plate to prevent oil flow into the original VANOS tube. We recommend replacing the O-rings with new ones during this step.
