BMW High-Performance Exhaust VANOS Modification

When building high horsepower BMW engines, the exhaust VANOS system can become a limiting factor, particularly in applications with increased fuel system demands.

Because the high-pressure fuel pumps are driven by the exhaust camshaft, increased fuel demand places additional load on the camshaft and VANOS system. At higher power levels, this additional resistance can make it difficult for the VANOS system to achieve and maintain the commanded exhaust cam position. Even with increased oil pressure, the system may still struggle to reach the desired cam advance.

Under heavy load, this can cause the exhaust cam timing to retard from the commanded position, negatively affecting power, efficiency, and overall engine performance.

Our 5150 Exhaust VANOS Modification is designed to address this limitation by increasing the usable adjustment range and allowing the exhaust camshaft to maintain the required position under demanding high-power conditions.

Includes the components required to perform the 5150 S58 Exhaust VANOS Modification. This option is intended for professional engine builders and machine shops capable of performing the modification in-house.

Option 2 – Complete VANOS Modification Service
Send us your S58 exhaust VANOS core, and our engine shop will perform the complete modification for you. Once completed, your modified VANOS unit will be returned ready for installation.

Core Requirement: The Complete Modification Service requires you to send us your original S58 exhaust VANOS unit. A core is not required when purchasing the modification parts only.

Tuning Required

After this modification, the tuner must recalibrate the new lower VANOS limit within the ECU calibration. Mechanical engine timing and installation procedures remain the same as the factory setup.

Professional tuning is required to properly utilize the increased VANOS adjustment range.
