The 5150 AutoSport VANOS Elimination Kit for BMW S85 is a high-performance upgrade designed to remove the OEM VANOS system from the S85 engine, found in the BMW E60/E61 M5. This kit provides everything needed to lock the camshafts in a fixed position, bypass the VANOS control system, and allow the engine to operate without the variable camshaft timing feature. With this modification, camshaft timing becomes fully customizable to suit your racing or high-performance needs.

Key Considerations When Eliminating VANOS

While the VANOS Elimination Kit is a performance enhancement for racing and track use, it's important to understand the potential downsides and ensure it's suited for your build:

• Loss of Low-End Torque: The VANOS system optimizes cam timing across various RPM ranges, improving low-end torque. Without it, the engine may lose some responsiveness and power at lower engine speeds.
• Reduced Fuel Efficiency: With fixed cam timing, the engine’s fuel efficiency may decrease, especially in low-load driving conditions, as the engine no longer benefits from the optimal timing adjustments offered by VANOS.
• Emissions: VANOS helps reduce emissions by optimizing combustion efficiency. Removing the system may increase emissions and make the vehicle non-compliant with certain environmental regulations, especially in street applications.

• Less Versatile Power Delivery: With fixed cam timing, power delivery becomes less flexible. This may sacrifice performance outside of the tuned RPM range for maximum efficiency.
