MLS Head Gasket

Cut-Ring Head Gasket
The Athena Cut-Ring Head Gasket replaces BMW part #11121726619, 1112172622, and 11121405106, fitting M50, M52, S50, and S52 iron block engines in E34/E36 chassis.
Unlike OEM & MLS gaskets, which can fail under high cylinder pressures, the Athena Cut-Ring Gasket is recommended for 16+ psi applications. Made from reinforced M0115 asbestos-free material, it features AISI 304 stainless steel Cooper Rings that bite into the aluminum head for maximum sealing—ideal for turbocharged or nitrous setups exceeding 2 bar boost.
Installation Notes:
- Ensure cylinder head and block surfaces are professionally cleaned and resurfaced.

Stock gasket sizes:
- M50/M52: 84mm bore, 0.070" thickness
- S50: 86mm bore, 0.070" thickness
- S52: 86.4mm bore, 0.070" thickness
- Choose a gasket 0.5mm to 1mm larger than the piston bore. (e.g., 84mm piston → 84.5mm or 85mm gasket).
Head Gasket Installation Instructions:

Ensure engine block and cylinder head surfaces are clean, flat, and free from any debris, oil, or coolant.

Install head gasket on engine block and ensure proper alignment. Avoid twisting or bending the gasket during installation.

Place the cylinder head on top of the gasket and install the head studs in their correct positions.

Follow ARP's recommended torque specifications and tighten studs in the proper sequence to ensure even clamping force across the gasket.

After the initial tightening, re-torque the head bolts or studs after the engine has been started and then allowed to cool to room temperature. This will ensure that the gasket is properly seated and compressed.

It is recommended to not use any additional sealant on the gasket. Using additional sealant can hinder performance.
