Head Gasket
The head gasket options in this kit are specifically engineered for use in the B58 Gen 1 turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engines found in various BMW chassis.
Replaces BMW part # 11128654268 and #11128654269.
MLX Head Gasket
C14144-036
Composed of multiple layers of embossed coated and uncoated stainless steel, Cometic MLX gaskets are specially designed to conform to the surfaces of the cylinder head and engine block on the first heat cycle, creating a chemical bond via Cometic's proprietary coatings. These coatings provide a micro-seal for fluids against the head and block surface.
The layers of the MLX gasket act as a spring, protecting against blowout and increasing active seal height by compensating for increased head lift.
Cut-Ring Head Gasket
Athena-SCE's Cut-Ring gasket body is composed of Motorgasket, a reinforced material developed by Athena's R&D department. This consists of a steel core covered with two layers of asbestos-free aramid fibre and offers excellent thermal and mechanical resistance without compromising its ability to adapt to mating surfaces.
To ensure maximum sealing under all conditions, a silicone bead is also applied to critical sealing areas, such as oil and coolant passages.
The AISI 304 stainless steel cooper rings bite into the aluminum head, providing maximum sealing around the cylinder bore and optimizing engine performance, even on engines with nitrous and/or turbo applications that exceed 2 bar boost.
Please be aware that the gasket should be 0.5mm to 1mm larger than the piston. For example, if the piston measures 84mm, then the gasket should be the next size up, either 84.5mm or 85mm.
Before installation, it is crucial to have the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and block professionally cleaned and resurfaced to ensure they are completely flat.
Head Gasket Installation instructions:
-
Ensure engine block and cylinder head surfaces are clean, flat, and free from any debris, oil, or coolant.
-
Install head gasket on engine block and ensure it is properly aligned. Avoid twisting or bending the gasket during installation.
-
Place the cylinder head on top of the gasket and install head studs in their correct positions.
-
Follow the ARP's recommended torque specifications and tighten the studs in proper sequence to ensure even clamping force across the gasket.
-
After the initial tightening, re-torque the head bolts or studs after the engine has been started and then allowed to cool to room temperature. This will ensure that the gasket is properly seated and compressed.
-
It is recommended to not use any additional sealant on the gasket. Using additional sealant can hinder the performance of the gasket.
Head Stud Kit:
The ARP2000 Head Stud Kit, 203-4705, is designed for the turbocharged inline 6-cylinder BMW B58 engine. As you increase the power output of your engine beyond its factory specifications, the head and block may start to separate, causing factory bolts to stretch and fail. ARP Head Studs are significantly stronger than factory bolts, ensuring your race engine stays together even under extreme conditions.
The Custom Age 625+ option, 203-4706, is made from a material that has a tensile strength of 260 ksi, which is substantially higher than the 190 ksi of the ARP 2000 head stud. It's an ideal choice for individuals who want to push the limits of their B58 builds and require a stronger head stud.
