While stepped header technology has been prevalent in Formula 1 for some time, these SuperSprint Headers were the first application of a stepped design on the E46 M3.

In an engine as finely tuned as the S54, airflow management is crucial for achieving substantial horsepower gains from the exhaust. Supersprint's design represents the next evolution in header design. By gradually increasing pipe diameters as the exhaust system moves away from the engine, airflow is maximized. This design is specifically tuned for the S54 engine to enhance power without sacrificing low-end torque. The headers seamlessly merge into a precision-fit merge collector.

Following the headers, the stepped piping size continues into the Supersprint section 1, which can be purchased separately with or without catalytic converters. Any section 2 and rear muffler can be paired with the Supersprint section 1. The most popular package for track cars features the stepped headers without catalytic converters, although catalytic converters are available for those needing emissions compliance. The complete system offers a total horsepower gain of over 30hp compared to a US M3.
