5150 MoldStar 90 High-Performance Valve Seat Kit – BMW S58
The 5150 MoldStar 90 High-Performance Valve Seat Kit is designed for high-horsepower BMW S58 cylinder heads operating under extreme boost, cylinder pressure, exhaust temperature, and RPM.
Each complete kit includes 12 intake and 12 exhaust valve seats manufactured from MoldStar 90, a premium beryllium-free copper alloy selected for its excellent thermal conductivity, strength, wear resistance, and ability to perform in demanding racing environments.
Why Replace the Factory S58 Valve Seats?
The factory S58 cylinder head is extremely capable, but the OEM valve seats were engineered around factory operating conditions and power levels. As boost, horsepower, RPM, and exhaust gas temperatures increase, the thermal and mechanical demands placed on the valves and seats increase significantly.
The valve seat does much more than provide a surface for the valve to close against. It plays two critical roles: sealing the combustion chamber and transferring heat away from the valve and into the cylinder head.
On extreme S58 builds, especially those operating at sustained high boost and elevated EGT, improving this area of the cylinder head becomes increasingly important.
Why MoldStar 90?
One of the biggest advantages of MoldStar 90 is heat management.
Every time a valve closes against its seat, heat is transferred from the valve into the seat and surrounding cylinder head. The copper-based construction of MoldStar 90 provides excellent thermal conductivity, creating an efficient path for removing heat from the valve.
This becomes increasingly beneficial in S58 applications involving:
- Extreme boost and cylinder pressure

Improved Valve Sealing Under High Cylinder Pressure
At extreme boost levels, maintaining a precise valve-to-seat seal is critical.
The valve and seat must remain concentric and provide a consistent sealing surface despite tremendous combustion pressure, temperature, and repeated high-RPM operation.
A compromised valve-to-seat interface can contribute to compression loss, combustion leakage, increased valve temperature, reduced performance, and ultimately valve or seat damage.
Properly installed and machined MoldStar 90 seats provide an excellent foundation for a precision performance valve job designed specifically around the valve, camshaft, RPM range, and intended power level of the engine.
Better Heat Transfer = Better Valve Protection
The exhaust valves operate in one of the harshest environments inside a high-output turbocharged engine.
When an exhaust valve is closed, contact with the valve seat provides an important path for transferring heat out of the valve. As S58 power levels and EGT increase, efficiently managing this heat becomes increasingly important.
The excellent thermal conductivity of MoldStar 90 helps transfer heat away from the valve and into the cylinder head, making it particularly valuable for high-boost S58 racing applications subjected to repeated or sustained high-load operation.
Built for Extreme S58 Cylinder Heads
For a mildly modified street engine, replacing valve seats may not be necessary. These seats are intended for serious S58 cylinder-head builds where the engine is being pushed substantially beyond its original operating range.
We recommend considering MoldStar 90 seats for maximum-effort applications involving high boost, extreme horsepower, increased RPM, upgraded camshafts, oversized valves, or complete CNC cylinder-head programs.
They are also an excellent solution when factory valve seats are damaged or when oversized valves require new seat dimensions and geometry.

Professional Machining Required
MoldStar 90 valve seats are not drop-in components. Installation requires professional cylinder-head machining.
Correct seat-pocket machining, interference fit, installed depth, concentricity, valve contact width, and final valve-job geometry are critical to achieving the intended results.
For maximum-performance S58 builds, we recommend installing the seats as part of a complete cylinder-head program where the valves, guides, seats, springs, retainers, camshafts, and machining are engineered to work together.
