Cut Ring Head Gasket

The SCE Cut Ring Head Gasket is a direct replacement for BMW part #11127835918, designed for the S54 inline-six engine. Standard OEM and MLS gaskets can only withstand limited cylinder pressure before leaking, making this gasket ideal for applications exceeding 16+ psi.

A failing head gasket can cause overheating, power loss, misfires, or catastrophic engine failure. This gasket is made from high-quality reinforced M0115 material, an asbestos-free, OE-approved composite known for durability. Its AISI 304 stainless steel rings embed into the aluminum head for superior sealing, making it ideal for nitrous or turbo setups exceeding 2 bar boost.

Installation Notes:

  • Ensure cylinder head and block surfaces are clean, flat, and debris-free.

  • Align the gasket properly on the engine block.

  • Install the cylinder head and secure head bolts or studs per manufacturer torque specs.

  • Do NOT use additional sealants, as the gasket includes a Viton rubber sealant coating.


MLS Head Gasket

The Cometic MLS Head Gasket replaces BMW part #11127835918 for S54 engines in E46 M3, E36/7 Z3 M, Z4 M Coupe/Roadster, and E46 M3 CSL. It is a high-performance alternative for supercharged and turbocharged builds.

S54 engines have an 87mm bore and a stock gasket thickness of 0.027 inches. MLS gaskets provide superior sealing, resist shearing forces, and reduce bore distortion. Constructed from multiple stainless-steel layers, they are corrosion-resistant and can withstand extreme heat and pressure.

Important Compatibility Note: MLS gaskets cannot be used on engines with O-rings or receiver grooves, as they require a smooth, flat sealing surface.

Installation Notes:

  • Ensure mating surfaces are clean, flat, and free of oil or debris.

  • Align the gasket correctly on the block.

  • Install the head and torque bolts/studs per manufacturer specifications.

  • Do NOT use additional sealants, as the gasket features a Viton rubber sealant.


ARP Head Stud Kit (201-4303)

The ARP 201-4303 head stud kit is a direct replacement for BMW part #11127831862, designed for the S54 inline-six in E46 M3, Z3 M Roadster, Z4 M Coupe/Roadster, and E46 M3 CSL.

Upgrading to ARP head studs increases clamping force and improves head gasket sealing, reducing the risk of failure—especially in high-performance, supercharged, or turbocharged applications.

Strength Options:

  • ARP2000 Kit – 220,000 PSI tensile strength (suitable for most high-performance builds).

  • Custom Age 625+ Kit – 280,000 PSI tensile strength (ideal for extreme boost applications).

Head Stud Kit Installation Instructions: 

1. To ensure proper thread engagement and accurate torque readings, clean ALL threads in the block. Chase if necessary with ARP Thread Chaser.
2. Clean and inspect all hardware prior to installation. Look for obvious defects or shipping damages, plus proper fit, length and dimension.
3. If the cylinder head studs protrude into a water jacket, lubricate the block threads of the studs with ARP THREAD SEALER.
4. Screw studs into the block “HAND TIGHT ONLY.”
5. Install the cylinder head(s) and check for binding or misalignment.
6. Lubricate the stud threads, nuts and washers with ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT.
Then install the washers and the nuts onto the studs and tighten them hand tight.
ARP recommends using the ARP ULTRA-TORQUE FASTENER ASSEMBLY LUBRICANT that is provided with each kit as opposed to motor oil. This is due to higher friction on the studs as well as inconsistencies in the clamping force of the fasteners when motor oil or other low quality lubricants are used.

PRELOAD (TORQUE) RECOMMENDATIONS

7. Following the manufacturers recommended torque sequence tighten the nuts steps 1-3

ARP2000
Step 1: Tighten to 35 ft-lbs.
Step 2: Tighten to 70 ft-lbs.
Step 3: Tighten to 105 ft-lbs.

Custom Age 625+
Step 1: Tighten to 35 ft-lbs.
Step 2: Tighten to 70 ft-lbs.
Step 3: Tighten to 100 ft-lbs.
