BMW S68: Everything you Need to Know
Introduced in 2022, the BMW S68 engine represents BMW M Divisions' shift in their high performance formula, introducing a hybrid to their famed //M line for the first time in BMW history. While we wait to see M's next platform, here's everything you've been wondering about the BMW S68, at a glance:

- Internal Combustion Engine: 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8
- Electric Motor: 48-volt Mild Hybrid [installed within the transmission]
- Configuration: 90-Degree V8
- Layout: Hot-vee [one turbo per bank, situated within the banks]

Changes in the S68
While the S68 is not the first to be used in a BMW hybrid platform, it is the first BMW to feature the hybrid system installed within the transmission. Also unique to the S68 is a cross-pattern exhaust manifold. This manifold improves turbo pressure by combining exhaust pulses. And, lastly, the BMW S68 features an electronic VANOS unit, rather than the hydraulic unit of earlier engines.
