5150 Engine Shop Welcomes Chris Fletcher of Fletcher Made Horsepower

5150 Engine Shop Welcomes Chris Fletcher of Fletcher Made Horsepower

5150 AutoSport is proud to announce a major addition to our engine program: Chris Fletcher of Fletcher Made Horsepower has joined the 5150 team as Lead Engine Builder, further strengthening our commitment to building some of the most durable, precise, and competitive BMW engines in the world.

Decades of Proven Motorsport Experience

Chris Fletcher brings over 30 years of experience in the racing industry, with more than 26 years dedicated specifically to building winning BMW powerplants. His engines are not theoretical builds or dyno-only projects; they are proven under the most demanding conditions in professional motorsport.

Fletcher-built BMW engines have competed, and won, in some of the most prestigious racing series in North America, including:

  • American Le Mans Series (ALMS) – One of the most technically demanding endurance racing series, featuring factory-backed teams and world-class engineering standards.
  • Rolex Sports Car Series – Renowned for long-distance endurance racing where reliability and consistency are just as critical as outright power.
  • World Challenge (now GT World Challenge America) – A fiercely competitive sprint racing series known for close racing and manufacturer rivalry.
  • Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge – A proving ground for production-based race cars, emphasizing durability, repeatability, and flawless execution.

Success in these environments requires more than horsepower; it demands deep engineering knowledge, meticulous assembly practices, and an uncompromising approach to reliability. Chris has delivered on all fronts.

BMW Factory Motorsport Pedigree: Prototype Technology Group (PTG)

Chris Fletcher was also a pit crew member and engine builder for BMW North America’s factory motorsport team, the Prototype Technology Group (PTG), from 2000 through 2007.

PTG was BMW NA’s official racing partner and was responsible for developing, building, and campaigning BMW’s factory-backed race cars in North America. Founded in the mid-1990s, PTG played a pivotal role in BMW’s motorsport dominance, engineering championship-winning programs in professional road racing series and setting the benchmark for BMW race car preparation.

In 2007, BMW North America officially retired PTG, marking the end of a highly successful era of factory-supported BMW racing in the U.S. Chris’s involvement during this period places him directly at the heart of one of BMW’s most successful modern motorsport campaigns.

In 2008, following the retirement of PTG, Chris opened his own performance shop, Fletcher Made Horsepower. FMH, under Chris's leadership, continued building high performance BMW Engines through 2026 for a variety of motorsport applications.

Raising the Bar at 5150 AutoSport

Chris Fletcher is the real deal. His arrival brings decades of top-level racing experience directly into the 5150 engine shop, from factory motorsport programs to championship-winning privateer efforts. This knowledge now becomes part of every engine that leaves our facility.

With Chris leading engine assembly and development, 5150 AutoSport continues to push forward in precision machining, assembly standards, and real-world performance reliability for both race and high-performance street applications.
