The 5150 AWD G87 M2: Power, Partnership, and Purpose

The 5150 AWD G87 M2: Power, Partnership, and Purpose

Some builds are about numbers. Others are about innovation. This one is about trust, collaboration, and pushing the G87 M2 platform further than BMW ever intended.

Our shop G87 M2 is officially a 3.4L AWD—and it’s headed to TX2K 2026.

The Heart of the Build: 3.4L S58 Stroker

At the core of the car is a 5150-built 3.4L S58 stroker engine, engineered specifically for high-load, high-traction AWD abuse.

This engine features our 5150 Pro-Xtreme Cylinder Head Service, which includes precision CNC machining, optimized airflow characteristics, and meticulous valvetrain preparation designed to support sustained high horsepower and reliability. When cylinder pressure, RPM, and thermal load increase—as they do in TX2K-style racing—the cylinder head becomes critical. This service ensures the S58 can breathe efficiently and survive under extreme conditions.

Power is delivered through a Pro-Xtreme ZF 8HP transmission build by Brian Shull of Applied Torque Solutions, engineered for maximum durability and performance under extreme torque and repeated AWD launches. With this being the most robust transmission package available, it ensures the driveline is as prepared as the engine itself.

The rotating assembly, transmission, and supporting components were selected with the same philosophy: no weak links. This is a purpose-built car meant to be driven hard—not babied.

Once the engine was complete, it was handed off to the team at Foreign Performance in Boynton Beach, Florida for installation.

Foreign Performance: Installation Done Right

We want to be very clear about something that often gets misunderstood:

5150 AutoSport builds engines. We do not offer installation services.

That’s why partnerships matter.

Mario and his team at Foreign Performance (FP) handled the engine install and AWD integration with the level of precision this kind of build demands. Their attention to detail, experience with high-horsepower BMW platforms, and commitment to doing things the right way made them the obvious choice for this project.

If you are looking for a professional, high-quality BMW performance shop in South Florida, Foreign Performance has our highest recommendation—without hesitation.

They are also an official 5150 partner shop, meaning they can assist customers with:

  • Ordering 5150 components
  • Professional installation and support

This build is a true collaboration, and we greatly appreciate Mario and his entire team for their work and professionalism.

Why AWD Matters on the G87 Platform

As power levels climb, traction becomes the limiting factor—and the G87 M2 is no exception. AWD fundamentally changes how power is applied, especially in competitive environments like TX2K where launches, surface prep, and consistency matter just as much as peak horsepower.

This setup is about:

  • Maximizing usable power
  • Improving repeatability and stability
  • Exploring what the S58 platform can do when traction is no longer the bottleneck

This car wasn’t built for dyno numbers alone. It was built to perform when it counts.

AWD Conversion: Proven, Not Experimental

While this M2 is a major milestone for us, it’s important to say this clearly: our AWD G87 M2 is not the first M2 to receive this conversion. This path has already been paved by some of the most respected names in the BMW performance world.

Our partner Yerbol of GTP Tuned led the way with his AWD-converted M2. Shortly after, our 5150 UK team Tom Wrigley and R44 Performance completed their own conversion. Most recently, Mario of Foreign Performance—the very shop that handled our install—completed his personal AWD M2 as well.

By the time our car rolled into the shop, the blueprint was already proven. That matters. It means this build is about execution, refinement, and performance—not guesswork.

TX2K 2026: The Real Test

The ultimate goal for this car is TX2K 2026, where it will face real competition, real conditions, and real consequences.

We’re excited to finally put this AWD G87 M2 to the test and see what it can do on the track.

More importantly, this build represents what 5150 stands for:

  • Engines built to survive abuse
  • Proven partnerships with trusted shops
  • Performance solutions backed by experience—not hype

Stay tuned. The 5150 AWD M2 story is just getting started.
